Some important facts about the airport
The airstrip in Varanasi was built during the British rule. Domestic flights started from here in the year 1950. Earlier it was known as Varanasi Airport. In 1953, the terminal building was built here. It expanded with time. From here the number of passengers also started increasing gradually and the facilities are also expanding. In the year 2010, a new magnificent terminal was built. It was recognized as an international airport on 18 June 2018.
In the year 2005, it came to be known as the second Prime Minister of the country, Lal Bahadur Shastri. It is now an international airport with state-of-the-art facilities. Ships are available from here to every major city of the country, and flights are also available to foreign countries from here. It is the 20th busiest airport in the country. At present it is being expanded. In the coming days, ships will fly over the runway and vehicles will run from below. In this way it will become the first airport in the country in itself. Tunnel construction work is going on fast.
