SCO Foreign Ministry Meeting In Goa: India will host a two-day foreign minister-level meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) starting in Goa from May 4, Thursday. This meeting is being held at a time when there is tension between Russia and Western countries regarding the Ukraine war and concerns are also being expressed about China's expansionist attitude. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will preside over this meeting, in which China's Foreign Minister Chin Kang, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari etc. will be included.

It is believed that the whole situation in Afghanistan can also be discussed in the meeting, in which those concerns can also be considered in which it is being said that this country can become a breeding ground of terrorism under the rule of Taliban. Along with this, the rapidly emerging security situation can also be discussed. However, during the meeting, there will be a special focus on whether there is any bilateral meeting between Jaishankar and Bilawal on the sidelines of the SCO conference or not?

India is presiding over the SCO meeting this year.

A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is being held on May 4-5, 2023 in Goa, India. SCO was established in 2001 in Shanghai. SCO includes China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India is chairing the group for this year. India and Pakistan became permanent members of SCO based in China in 2017. India has emerged as an important country among the countries of the SCO organization. China and Russia are the main countries in this organization. This organization is also seen as an alternative to NATO. In such a situation, despite being a member of SCO, India is also a member of Quad, an organization of four countries.

Terrorism and effects of Ukraine war can be discussed

Apart from India, Quad includes America, Japan and Australia. Russia and China have been vocally opposing the QUAD. Sources associated with the preparation of the SCO meeting said that apart from discussing ways to increase cooperation in the organization, topics like business, investment, connectivity will figure prominently. Apart from the challenges of terrorism, the effects of the Ukraine war can also be discussed. India is hosting the SCO summit at a time when its relations with China are strained due to the eastern Ladakh border standoff. Sources said that in the meeting, the foreign minister will discuss the challenges being faced by the region in the backdrop of the current geopolitical crisis and bilateral relations between the member countries will not affect the discussion.

First high-level visit by a Pakistani leader to India since 2011

Sources said that apart from the meeting, the Foreign Minister may hold separate bilateral meetings with their counterparts from Russia, China and some other member states. Pakistan has already announced that its Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting to be held in India. If Bilawal comes to India, it will be the first high-level visit of any Pakistani leader to India after 2011. Pakistan's Foreign Minister Heena Rabbani Khar had come to India that year. Heena Rabbani is currently the Minister of State for External Affairs.

SCO Defense Minister level meeting was held last week
