Visakhapatnam: Today proved to be a very special day for the Indian Navy when it successfully tested the MRSAM ( Medium Range Surface to Air Missile ) from INS Visakhapatnam . In a major breakthrough in the direction of indigenization of defense manufacturing, the MRSAM, capable of inducting anti-ship missiles, hit its target on Tuesday. The specialty of this missile is that it will target its target within a few seconds.
The Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM), jointly developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), has been built at Bharat Dynamic Limited (BDL). This success of the Indian Navy is very important in the sense that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been prepared under the vision of “Self-reliant India”.
After BrahMos missile now MRSAM
Before this test, two days ago on Sunday (March 5), the Indian Navy had successfully tested firing the supersonic BrahMos missile from the Arabian Sea. Officials said that the indigenous "seeker and booster" were engaged in the missile which was tested.

A senior military officer said, "The Indian Navy's ship-launched BrahMos missile with indigenous DRDO-designed seeker and booster hit the target in the Arabian Sea, demonstrating our commitment to defense self-reliance and Got stronger." BrahMos missile travels towards the target at 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound.

What is MRSAM?
The anti-ship version of the supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired jointly by the Indian Navy and the Andaman and Nicobar Command in April last year.
MRSAM is an advanced network-centric combat air defense system, used by both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, has a range of 70 km and can engage planes, drones, helicopters and incoming missiles. Can kill many types of air targets.
