New Delhi. The Indian women's hockey team has made history in Tokyo by making it to the semi-finals of the Olympics for the first time. The team defeated Australia 1-0 in the quarter-finals. This is only the third Olympics for the team. Gurjit Kaur scored the only goal for India. Gurjit Kaur, who plays as a drag flicker, has registered her name in history with this.

The story of Punjab's Gurjit Kaur's hockey career is very interesting. His father Satnam Singh is a farmer. He used to take Gurjit and his elder sister Pradeep Kaur to school by bicycle. After this, he decided to send both the sisters to a boarding school in Tarn Taran, 70 km from home. This was the old hockey nursery. In such a situation, both the sisters left home in 2006 to pursue a career in hockey and today we are getting to see their results.

Got a place in senior camp for the first time in 2014

Gurjit Kaur, 25, first got a place in the senior Indian team's national camp in 2014. Although she could not make a regular player of Team India before 2017. The 2017 Asia Cup brought a big achievement for him. The team qualified for the World Cup by winning the tournament. Gurjit Kaur scored 8 goals for the Indian team. Out of this, he scored 7 goals from penalty corners. In the semi-finals, he scored two brilliant goals against Japan to get the team a place in the final.

This is the result of years of hard work

After the victory against Australia, Gurjit Kaur said that it is the result of years of hard work. He said, 'We were working hard for a long time, but it worked today. The whole team has worked hard for this. Gurjit Kaur said that it is a proud day for us, as we have reached the semi-finals for the first time. We will now start preparing for the next match. We are getting support from everyone.

Now there is to be a clash with Argentina

The Indian women's team could not start well in Tokyo. The team was defeated by the Netherlands 5-1, Germany 2-0 and Britain 4-1 in the first three matches. After this the team made a strong comeback. First they won by defeating Ireland 1-0 in a struggling match. Then the Indian team defeated South Africa 4-3 and made it to the quarter-finals. Now defeating Australia 1-0, the team secured a place in the semi-finals. The team will take on Argentina in the semi-finals on 4 August. Argentina defeated Germany in the first quarter final.
