Astrologers say that the significance of the festival has increased due to the coincidence of Shiva Yoga, Siddhi Yoga and the intimate constellation on the day of Mahashivaratri. In the midst of these auspicious coincidences, the worship of Mahashivaratri is considered extremely auspicious.
The festival of Mahashivaratri is celebrated on Chaturdashi Tithi with the Triodashi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Phagan. Triodashi and Chaturdashi are meeting on Thursday, March 11. This day is a coincidence of Shiva Yoga, Siddhi Yoga and Ghanishtha Nakshatra. Such an event is to take place after 101 years on Mahashivaratri. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati were married on this day.
Along with the gods and goddesses, demons, kinnars, gandharvas, ghosts, vampires were also involved in Bholenath's marriage. On Mahashivaratri, the Shivling is bathed with a mixture of Ganga water, milk, ghee, honey and sugar. Astrologers also say that Shivling was manifested for the welfare of the world on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha in the month of Phagan.

Shiva Yoga will be on March 11 until 9:24 p.m. After this, Siddha Yoga will come, which will last till 8:29 on March 12. All the mantras performed in Shiva Yoga are auspicious. This will be followed by Ghanishtha Nakshatra till 9:45 pm.

This year, the muhurat of worship on Mahashivaratri in the night time will be from 12 noon to 06 minutes and from 12 noon to 54 minutes. The total duration of the puja will last about 48 minutes. The Paran Muhurat will be held on March 12, from 6 a.m. to 36 p.m., from 3 to 4 p.m.
Worship ritual of Mahashivaratri
Get up early in the morning and take a shower. After this, fill the clay container with water or milk and place the bill on it. Datura flowers. Add rice etc. and then offer on Shivling. If you cannot go to Shiva temple then you can worship him by making earthen Shivling at home. Read Shivpuran and chant Mahamrutyunjaya Mantra or Shiva's Panchakshara Mantra Om Namah Shivaya.
The statement of night vigil on the day of Maha Shivaratri has also been mentioned. After this, according to the classical rites, it is considered best to worship Shivaratri during the Nitith period. However, devotees can worship this day in four pahars of the night as per their convenience.
