This twin tunnel is built 20 meters below sea level. Its total length is 2.07 km. This tunnel is being built in the Arabian Sea. It will connect Girgaum Chowpatty, Malabar Hill and Priyadarshini Park.

With which machine was the tunnel constructed?

Machines imported from China have been used to build the tunnel. Till now such a big machine has never been used to make a tunnel in India. The weight of the machine is about 1700 tons and the length is 12 meters. This machine has been manufactured by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Company Limited. It was brought here and assembled. This machine is specially made for tunneling under water.

What is the specialty of the tunnel?

The diameter of both the tunnels is a little more than 12 meters. In this, four lanes have been made for pedestrians and two for vehicles. Each tunnel is 3.2 meters wide. Two lanes will be started and one lane will be reserved for emergency. Measures are being taken to make the entrance and exit of the tunnel easier to access. A picnic spot like place is also being developed on Marine Drive. After the commissioning of this tunnel, the journey from Girgaum to Worli will be easy. Time will also be saved.

India's second tunnel under the sea is also being built in Maharashtra. This tunnel is in the process of being built for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train. Although this tunnel will be 21 kilometers long, but seven kilometers of it will be under the sea. This tunnel will be built between Bandra Kurla and Shilphata stations.
