He left the prestigious position of CEO to start his own business . According to Forbes, 70-year-old Vinod Saraf is the 96th richest person in the country today. He ventured into the business of manufacturing Isobutyl Benzene in the year 1989.
Talking about isobutyl benzene, it is the main raw material used to make the famous pain killer ibuprofen. He named his company Vinati Organics. He named this after his elder daughter. Today the market cap of Vinati Organics is Rs 20,000 crore. Coming from a middle class family, Vinod Saraf started leading a leading company of the Aditya Birla Group one day.
Vinod Saraf's journey was full of struggle
Talking about Vinod Saraf, his journey started from Rajasthan. He was born in the house of a small businessman. He was the eldest of seven siblings. Vinod was topper in studies since childhood. He had completed his graduation only at the age of 17. He was the state topper. After this, at the age of 19, he did his MBA from the prestigious BITS Pilani. Here too he was a gold medalist. His early education was done in Hindi medium. That's why he could not make a place in many multinational companies. After this, his talent was recognized by a businessman dealing in clothes. After this, for the next 10 years, he worked in different companies doing textile business.
Vinati Organics was formed in the year 1990.
Vinod Saraf then took entry in Birla Group and got a job in one of his companies. Working with late businessman Aditya Birla, he became the Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited. He has experience of working in companies like Grasim Industries, Modern Syntex and Bhilwara Group. When his career was on top, he resigned from a big corporate house like Birla. After this, in the year 1990, he established Vinati Organics. When his daughter joined the company to help him, the company took a big turn. Earlier his company was struggling with quality issues. A graduate from Wharton University, America, Vinati raised her father's business on a global platform. Vinati is currently the Managing Director and Managing Director of Vinati Organics Company. In 2019, Vinod Saraf made a place among the new billionaires of the country.
