Haldiram, which started the journey of Bhujia from Bikaner , Rajasthan, is doing business in 80 countries of the world today. It became so popular that 4 new companies were born out of it. However, the company has faced many ups and downs in its journey so far. Despite this, it has maintained its dominance in the snacks industry . Haldiram's has 36 percent share in the snacks industry.

Even though Haldiram's officially started in 1937, Bhikharam Agarwal of Bikaner started the Bhujia business much earlier. Their Bhujia also has its own story. Actually, Bhikharam used to work in Bhujia market. His daughter used to make Bhujia at home, whose taste was quite different. It was planned to take it to the market. Gradually it became a means of permanent income of the family.

Bring moth bhujia instead of gram flour

Later Bhikharam's grandson Ganga Bishan Agarwal got involved in this business. People knew him by the name of Haldiram. He used moth dal instead of gram flour. With this, Bhujia was prepared and started selling. In this way the taste of Bhujia got different. People started liking its taste.

To take the business forward, he named Bhujia Dungar Sev after Maharaja Dungar Singh of Bikaner. After adding the name of Maharaja to this, the name of Bhujia spread rapidly. Then the price of Bhujia was kept at 5 paise per kg. Because of the Maharaja's name, people started buying it as premium Bhujia.

Gradually in Bikaner it came to be known as Haldiram's Bhujia. In 1937 Ganga Bishan Agarwal gave it the official name as Haldiram Company and laid the foundation of the company.

When the partition happened

In 1955, Haldiram decided to start business in Kolkata as well. Started a company here in the name of Haldiram Bhujiawala. In the next decade, it became a well-known name of Kolkata. During this, Haldiram's elder son Satyanarayan decided to separate from his father and brother. After separation, they started a separate shop named Haldiram & Sons. On the other hand, the grandsons of Haldiram expanded the scope of business in Nagpur.

Found in Haldiram that South Indian dishes are very much liked in Nagpur. Understanding this as an opportunity, he started selling South Indian dishes. In this way the company earned name in Nagpur as well.

At present, the market cap of Haldiram is 24 thousand crores. The company did not limit itself to making only Bhujia. From time to time many types of snacks were launched which became quite popular.
