Mumbai : Parliament membership of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has been cancelled. Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified to be a member of the Lok Sabha by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Gujarat's Surat Sessions Court sentenced him to two years in a defamation case. After this, a demand was made by the BJP MPs to cancel his membership in the Lok Sabha. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted this demand. Taking a dig at this decision, Uddhav Thackeray has said that in this country it is now a crime to call a thief a thief.
The basis of the Representation of the People Act was taken to demand the cancellation of Rahul Gandhi's membership. It was said that no member is eligible to remain a member after the allegation is proved. Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi had said in an election campaign meeting in Karnataka four years ago that why Modi is associated with the name of every thief. In fact, Rahul Gandhi had mentioned Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi, who ran away after scamming crores. But his indirect attack was on PM Modi. He used the surname Modi. It was deemed defamatory of the prime minister and motivated by ill-will towards the backward community named Modi, and a Gujarat BJP MLA Purnesh Modi filed a petition in the Surat court against it. Today in that case the Surat court sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years imprisonment. Rahul Gandhi's membership was canceled on this issue.

Along with this, Arvind Sawant also said that the readiness shown by the court against Rahul Gandhi would have been better if it had been shown regarding the case of Shiv Sena. When it comes to canceling the legislature of 16 Shiv Sena MLAs, then there is no urgency.
