It was founded in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita . Masaru Ibuka was born on 11 April 1908 in Nikko, Japan. His father Tasuku Ibuka was an architect. The business of technical work was already going on at home. Masaru's father Tasuku built the first water-powered electric station in Japan.

But he died in an accident in the year 1910. Masru was only two years old then. After the death of his father, Masru went to his maternal grandparents along with his mother. Although Masru's mother remarried, he remained with his maternal grandparents. As a child, Masru loved to collect electronic components.

Masru's interest in technology arose during his schooling. During the World War, Masroo was sent to the Military Technology Department. At the same time he met Akio Morita. Akio was a Navy technical lieutenant. After the war ended, Masru decided to start his own business. A radio repair shop was opened in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.

Japan had lagged far behind in science and technology during the World War . Masaru decided to make Japan prosperous again. In 1946, when Akio came to know about Masaru's campaign, he also joined it. And first established the Tokyo Communications Laboratory. Which became Sony in 1958.

In 1950, the company launched Japan's first tape recorder. And then in 1955 the transistor. Sony launches TR-55, the first transistor radio. It became the world's first successful transistor radio. After this, in 1960, Sony created history by making the world's first transistor television.

In the late 1950s, Sony 's products made a splash in the American market as well. Sony's popularity skyrocketed after the introduction of the Trinitron in 1968 . was a color TV set that won the trust of customers because of its quality. The company left many of its competitors behind.

During the 1970s and 80s, Sony launched products such as the Betamax, Walkman, compact disc player, and Handycam. However, this company was also affected in the recession of the 1980s.
