According to Panchang, Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month will start from 06:20 PM on March 23, 2023 and will end on the next day, March 24, 2023 at 04:59 PM. Although Gangaur is the main festival of Rajasthan, but this festival is also celebrated in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat.

Significance of Gangaur Puja

Gangaur is made up of two words 'Gan' and 'Gaur'. Gana means Shiva and Gaur means Parvati. According to the scriptures, on this day Parvati ji went out to give blessings of unbroken good fortune to the fortunate women by wearing sixteen adornments, so on this day married women worship Parvati ji along with Lord Shiva and wish them to protect their marriage.

How is Gangaur Puja (Gangaur Puja Vidhi)

People have their own beliefs regarding the worship of Gangaur. In Rajasthan, this festival starts from the day of Holi and lasts for 16 days. In these days, idols made of clay of Shiva-Parvati are worshiped daily, songs are sung. And then on the third day of Chaitra Navratri i.e. on the day of Gangaur Puja, women observe fast and listen to stories, ornaments are made by mixing flour, gram flour or flour with turmeric and offered to the mother. Then women give frills. The idol is given water near a river or lake and then immersed the next day. The place where worship is done is considered as Pihar of Gangaur and the place where immersion takes place is considered as Sasural. On the day of Gangaur, married women should definitely distribute the ingredients of suhaag. This increases good luck.
