The focus of the Modi Government (Modi Govt.) is on building new highways and expressways. On the other hand, it is constantly focusing on boosting railway and air connectivity as well. Under this, 21 Greenfield Airports are being developed in the country . These airports will connect every corner of the country by air from Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh to Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, Pakyong in Sikkim to Alwar in Rajasthan.

Greenfield airports are airports that are developed from scratch. That is, before the construction of these airports at these places, no other airport ever existed. India had prepared the Greenfield Airport (GFA) policy in the year 2008 to increase air connectivity in the country .

11 out of 21 airports have become operational

Under the Greenfield airport policy, the state government that wants to set up a new airport, or the airport developer has to send a proposal to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This is followed by a two-stage 'site clearance' and 'in-principle' permission for its installation.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Gen. (Dr.) V.K. Singh (retd) gave this information in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
