What is the importance of Bhasma Aarti… why women do not get entry, world record will be made on Mahashivaratri

Bhasma Aarti of Mahakal temple is famous not only in India but globally. There are many rules related to this aarti which is performed as a decoration of Lord Shiva. This time a world record will also be made for lighting lamps on Shivratri.

The Mahakaleshwar temple located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh is considered very famous from the religious point of view. The Bhasma Aarti held here attracts the devotees the most. People from far and wide come here to see the Bhasma Aarti that happens daily. This aarti performed in the form of adornment has ancient significance. Among the twelve Jyotirlingas across the country, 'Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga' has its own special importance. The most important rule of this temple is that only men can see Bhasma Aarti. During the Aarti, women are prohibited from visiting Mahakal Baba. So let's know why ashes are offered and why women are not given entry at that time.

Why is ashes used

According to religious belief and mythology, it is said that many years ago there was a demon named Dushan in Ujjain who used to torture the subjects and the king there. Troubled by him, people worshiped Mahadev and pleaded for their protector. It is said that Mahadev himself killed that demon by accepting his worship. After this he adorned himself with the ashes of the demon and then settled there. Since then this place has been named Mahakaleshwar. Bhasma Aarti started.

Lord Shiva is decorated with the pyre burning in the crematorium as ashes in the Aarti. However, apart from this, cow dung, peepal, palash, shami and ber wood are also burnt together. Ektitra Bhasma is also used in Aarti. It is believed that the person whose funeral pyre is decorated with Mahadev attains salvation.

Why is there a ban on women's entry

According to religious beliefs, during the Bhasma Aarti, women wear a veil in the temple. Apart from this, the entry of women in the temple is also stopped during the Aarti. It is believed that at that time Lord Shiva is in formless form, therefore, women cannot see that form of Mahadev.

World record will be made on Shivratri

Every year Shivratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Mahakaleshwar. People from India and abroad specially come here to see Bhasma Aarti. But this time apart from the Aarti, the Mahakaleshwar temple will also become the center of attraction. This time, on the occasion of Mahashivaratri, a world record will be made for lighting 21 lakh lamps.
