Rich countries should help drought-affected Kenya, children and cattle are suffering from hunger, Jill Biden appeals

Jill Biden heard the plight of Maasai women, how their children and cattle were suffering from hunger. Jill appealed to rich countries to help Kenya more.

Nairobi: US First Lady Jill Biden visited drought-affected areas in Kenya on Sunday. He saw first-hand the droughts of historic East Africa and heard the plight of some Maasai women about how their children and cattle were starving. Jill appealed to rich countries to help Kenya more.

The Horn of Africa is grappling with its driest situation in decades. In some areas here, there has been no rain for five consecutive rainy seasons. It became very difficult for the farmers to save their crops and cattle. The same condition or even worse is expected in the sixth rainy season starting in March.

Jill discussed with parents of malnourished children

On the last day of a five-day tour of Africa, Jill Biden also visited a center run by World Vision in collaboration with UNICEF and the World Food Program. She spoke to parents of children brought to the center for malnutrition check-up and also participated in a discussion with some of the women.

A mother of 10 children also participated in this group, who shared her stories. Jill then told reporters, 'He talked about how his cattle were dying. Obviously you can see the condition of drought here how bad the situation is.

Jill discusses safe sex with Kenyan youth

While there, he discussed safe sex and condoms among young adults. He lauded these youths for acquiring knowledge about safe sex and how to 'dating'. Jill also attends a meeting of women who have developed their own banking system. He also interacted with local entrepreneurs benefiting from a program linking tractor owners and farmers.

All three programs aim to help women and youth take control of their lives so that they can support themselves and their families. During a five-day trip to two African countries this week, Jill cited US-sponsored efforts to empower these groups.

These are issues that really everyone needs to be talking about and yet, they don't, and don't want to talk about it, Jill said after talking to young people about safe sex, condoms and contraception. The consequences are dire. (with input from language)
