Let us know, after all, the time before 8 days of Holi is considered prohibited for doing any auspicious work.

What is holashtak

According to Hindu Panchang, Holashtak Dosha remains from Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month to Purnima Tithi. No auspicious work can be done during this time. According to Vedic Muhurta Shastra, when the time is full of defects, then there is no possibility of success by doing any kind of work during that time. The word Holashtak is made up of two words Holi and Ashtak. Which means that there would be 8 days of Holi. This 8 days starts from Ashtami Tithi of Falgun Shukla Paksha and lasts till the full moon of Shukla Paksha of Falgun month.

Why is Holashtak inauspicious?

The time before 8 days of Holi is called Holashtak. In fact, during Holashtak, all the planets remain in a very fierce nature, due to which auspicious results are not obtained by doing any kind of auspicious work. During Holashtak, Moon on Ashtami, Sun on Navami, Shani on Dashami, Venus on Ekadashi, Guru on Dwadashi, Mercury on Trayodashi, Mangal on Chaturdashi and Rahu on full moon remain in fierce nature. When a person does any kind of auspicious work or takes any decision when there is fierceness in the nature of the planet, he does not take it with a calm mind, due to which the decisions taken by him can prove to be wrong. On the other hand, it has been said in astrology that those people whose horoscope has debilitated Moon or Scorpio zodiac sign, or the Moon is in the 6th or 8th house, they should be more cautious.

Other story

Holashtak is related to the suffering of Vishnu devotee Prahlad for 8 consecutive days by his father Hiranyakashyap and aunt. Actually Hiranyakashyap was a fierce opponent of Lord Vishnu. Anyone who chants the name of Lord Vishnu in his kingdom was punished severely. But his own son, child Prahrad, was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Child Prahrad always used to worship Lord Vishnu and chant his name. But father Hiranyakashyap did not like this thing at all. For this reason, for killing his son, Hiranyakashyap gave the harshest punishments from the Ashtami Tithi of Falgun Shukla Paksha to Purnima Tithi. For these 8 days, Lord Vishnu and his little devotee Prahlad had to face many kinds of sufferings. For this reason, 8 days before Holi are not considered auspicious time because during these days both God and the devotee remain in trouble.
