The World Health Organization (WH0) has confirmed the disease caused by the Marburg virus in the West African country of Equatorial Guinea. WH0 said that teams have been sent to the virus-infected area to find out the initial investigation about the disease. 

nine deaths and 16 suspected cases 

According to the World Health Organization (WH0), nine deaths and 16 suspected cases have been reported so far in Equatorial Guinea. The WHO reported that the symptoms of the disease caused by the Marburg virus include fever, fatigue, as well as vomiting and diarrhea with blood stains.

Equatorial Guinea's government announced last week that it was investigating the cause of several suspected cases of hemorrhagic fever, but said only three people showed mild symptoms. The affected area is a village near the border of Gabon and Cameroon in a dense forest.

Virus death rate 88 percent 

Equatorial Guinea's Health Minister Mitoha Ondo'o Ayakaba said a health alert was announced in Ki-Ntem province and the neighboring district of Mongomo, which imposed a lockdown following consultations with the WH0 and the UN.

At the same time, the Marburg virus is part of the so-called filovirus family, which also includes the Ebola virus, which has wreaked havoc in Africa in the past. It is a highly dangerous disease, which causes severe fever, which often involves bleeding.

The virus also often targets many body parts and reduces the body's ability to function. There are no approved vaccines or medicines for the treatment of Marburg.

The death rate from the virus ranges from 24 per cent to 88 per cent. In 2004, the virus killed 90 percent of 252 people infected in Angola. Two people died in Ghana last year from Marburg.
