West Bengal: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari did not attend the meeting even after being called by CM Mamata Banerjee, know what is the whole matter

West Bengal Politics: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari refused to attend the meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday (February 15) to appoint the State Information Commissioner (SIC). Banerjee had called the officer to his chamber in the assembly regarding the whole matter.

Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Suvendu Adhikari tweeted, "I did not attend the meeting of the committee on the appointment of the State Information Commissioner because the advertisement for inviting applications is in violation of the guidelines." It has been made a ridiculous process to clear a pre-decided candidate."

'It's a formality'

MLA Suvendu Adhikari further said that the list shows that the advertisement was not aired well in the national media. It is clear from this that the candidate is already decided and this meeting is a formality. The officer was called for a similar meeting last year as well but he did not turn up. He further said that being the leader of the opposition in the assembly, he cannot participate in such fake meetings to cheat the people.

Who became the State Information Commissioner?

In the midst of this controversy, former Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal Virendra was appointed as the State Information Commissioner. This information was given by State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay. A meeting was held in the state assembly in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's chamber to select the new SIC. Chattopadhyay said after the meeting, "There were 15 applications for the post, out of which 10 were found valid. CM Banerjee proposed the name of Virendra and we supported it.

What did the government say?

On Adhikari not attending the meeting, Chattopadhyay said, “We have received a letter from Suvendu Adhikari that he will not attend the meeting. We do not see any valid reason for his absence. We had sent him a letter 15 days back. We re-sent another letter 12 days ago modifying the original letter. If he had any objection, he had enough time to raise it.
