While Mahashivaratri is celebrated once a year in the month of Phalgun, on this day the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati took place. Mahashivratri 2023 will be celebrated on February 18 this year 

According to the Hindu calendar, the Chaturdashi date of Phalgun month will start from 8.02 pm on 17th February and end at 4.18 pm on 18th February. In such a situation, according to Udaya Tithi, this year the festival of Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Saturday, February 18, 2023. On the day of Mahashivaratri, there is a great importance of keeping fast and doing Rudrabhishek. Only fruits are eaten during Mahashivratri fast. This year, the time for observing the Mahashivaratri fast will be from 06.57 am to 3.33 pm on February 19. 

Mahashivratri fast worship method

On the day of Mahashivaratri, wake up early in the morning and take a bath and then wear clean clothes and take a pledge to fast with folded hands in front of Lord Shankar with full devotion. It is very good to observe Nirjala fast or take only fruits on this day. After this anoint Lord Shiva with Panchamrit and Gangajal. Offer Bel Patra, Dhatura, white sandalwood, perfume, Janeu, fruits and sweets to God. On this day Lord Shiva should be offered prasad to everyone by offering kheer containing saffron.
