Chhath Puja 2022: Why Pandit is not needed in Chhath Puja, what is the reason behind it

Chhath Puja 2022: Sun God is considered a philosophical deity apart from other deities in Hindu scriptures. There is no need of any kind of mediation i.e. Pandit for their worship. People can worship by having their darshan directly.

Chhath, the great festival of public faith, is celebrated every year on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. Chhath festival is celebrated with great pomp not only in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, but also in many parts of Odisha and Nepal. This festival is celebrated not only in India but also in many international countries. In this, special worship is done to the sixth mother and the sun god. Every year on this festival, thousands of people stand in the river or pond and worship the sun. As an enthusiasm, people put a lot of pictures of it on social media. But have you ever wondered why a priest is not required to perform the rituals of Chhath Puja?

On Chhath, fasting worshipers offer Arghya to the setting sun on the third day of worship and to the rising sun on the fourth day. During this worship, their deity i.e. Sun God is visible to the devotees. This festival is also mentioned in Rig Veda, and some mantras for worship have also been taken from Rig Veda. Most of the people themselves read the mantras of Lord Surya and Chhathi Mata during the worship of Sun. On this day, people mainly express their reverence by offering different types of fruits and dishes to God as a form of faith.

These deities performed Chhath Puja

According to mythology, it is believed that when Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita returned to Ayodhya, both had observed a fast in honor of the Sun God and broke their fast by offering Arghya to the setting sun. It is believed that Pandavas and Draupadi also performed Chhath Puja after getting their kingdom back. In addition, Karna, the sun god and Kunti's son, also worshiped while standing in the water. After this, Karna ruled the country of Anga, which is today known as Bhagalpur.

Importance of Chhath Puja

According to Hindu texts and mythology, the sixth mother is the Manas daughter of Lord Vishnu. It is also believed that the sixth mother is the sister of the Sun God. She is considered an incarnation of Goddess Katyayani, a form of Durga. At the time of creation of the universe, Brahma Ji had divided himself into two parts. In which one part became a man and the other assumed the form of a woman, who later became Mother Nature. It is believed that Mother Nature divided herself into six parts, of which the final form was called the sixth.
