History of World Suicide Prevention Day

The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) started celebrating World Suicide Prevention Day in the year 2003. This day is sponsored by the World Federation for Mental Health and World Health Organization. The first year of celebrating World Suicide Prevention Day was successful. For this reason, in the year 2004, the WHO formally agreed to co-sponsor the event again. Due to which this day became an annual recognized day.

Objective of celebrating World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day is celebrated with the aim of spreading awareness among people to avoid committing suicide and to prevent it in any way. The reason for celebrating this day is to research, spread awareness and collect data on the behavior of the person who committed suicide.

Theme of World Suicide Prevention Day 2022

This year i.e. for the year 2022 the theme of World Suicide Prevention Day has been set as 'Creating hope through action' i.e. "Creating hope among people through your work". The programs to be organized on this day will be based on this theme. Through this theme, the World Health Organization wants to give a message that those thinking of committing suicide should not give up their hope in any way.
