
Justice Uday Umesh Lalit will be the next Chief Justice of India. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice NV Raman has recommended the name of Justice UU Lalit for the next Chief Justice of the country. After receiving an official letter from the Ministry of Law and Justice, now Chief Justice Justice Raman has recommended the name of his successor. Yesterday on Wednesday, his office received this letter from the ministry.
Justice Raman took over as the 48th Chief Justice of the country on April 24, 2021. He replaced his predecessor Justice SA Bovde. He is retiring after 16 months now on 26th August.
Justice Raman has today sent the name of his successor Justice UU Lalit for recommendation as the next CJI. Justice Lalit will be the 49th Chief Justice of the country. As per convention, the retiring Chief Justice recommends the name of the new Chief Justice. CJI Raman is retiring this month on 26 August.
It was earlier speculated in the media that a few days back an official letter has been sent from the office of Law Minister Kiren Rijiju to the office of the Chief Justice regarding the next CJI. Now an official in the office of the Chief Justice said that this letter was received yesterday on Wednesday.
