Kolhapur, Aug 16 (UNI) Reacting to NCP chief Sharad Pawar's statement on reservation, state BJP president Chandrakant Patil on Monday accused Mr Pawar of trying to pin the blame on the central government by demanding a caste-based Census and relaxation in 50 per cent cap on quota.
Earlier in the day, Mr Pawar said that people were being misled into believing that reservation could be provided by the state government as the Supreme Court had ruled that reservation could not be given over 50 per cent limit.
Talking to reporters here this evening, he said that he had heard the statement of Mr Pawar and accused the NCP chief of lying on this issue.
Questioning as to why Mr Pawar did not do anything to relax the cap on 50 per cent reservation during his regime as the Congress and NCP were in power in Maharashtra for last 58 years, the BJP chief claimed that it was not their desire to do this during their regime then why was Mr Pawar now pinning the blame on the central government to hide their failure on this issue.
He also claimed that the MVA government was trying to deceive the people of the state on the Maratha reservation issue and alleged that the state government made a wilful delay in submission of the review petition in the Supreme Court on the Maratha reservation issue.
Mr Patil said that if Mr Pawar undertakes a tour of the state on the reservation issue, then BJP would also launch a 'pol khol' campaign and would narrate the real story behind his false statement.
On NCP chief questioning the age of state Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the BJP chief quipped that Mr Pawar is also an elder politician.
