Holashtak 2021: Why auspicious work is not done in Holashtak, know the reason behind it

According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Holi is celebrated on the full moon date of the month of Phalgun.
This time Holi is on 29 March. Holashtak takes 8 days from Holi. During this, there is no auspicious work of any kind. Holashtak is starting today i.e. March 22 and will continue till March 28. After this Holika Dahan on 28 March 2021 and Holi festival on 29 March 2021 will be celebrated with great pomp and show.

In astrology, doing auspicious work during Holashtak is considered inauspicious. This is believed to be because Kamadeva tried to disturb the penance of Lord Shiva on Ashtami Tithi. After which Lord Shiva had consumed Kamdev. Kamadev is considered to be the god of love, due to which mourning took place in all the three worlds. After this, Kamdev's wife Rati apologized to Lord Shiva and Shiva assured Kamdev to be revived.

According to the legend, Prahlada was subjected to a series of tortures and hardships by his father Hiranyakashyap for 8 consecutive days to dissolve devotion and distract him. In such a situation, it is said that no auspicious work is done for these 8 days.

These 8 days are called Holashtak. On the 8th day, Hiranyakashyap's sister Holika, with Prahlada in her lap, sits in the fire but Prahlada survives and Holika burns. Holi of colors is celebrated on the second day in the joy of Prahlada's survival.

Do not do this work during Holashtak

1. During Holashtak, marriage, land worship, house entrance, manglic work, new business and new work should be avoided.

2. Apart from this, you should not perform any kind of Yajna or Havan. In these days, newlyweds should not go to their parents.

3. According to the scriptures, during Holashtak, 16 rituals such as marriage ceremony, Janeu ceremony, naming ceremony are banned.
