Top 5 most expensive player in 14 years of IPL auction history

In the 2021 IPL auction, dangerous all-rounder Chris Maurice of South Africa was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 16 crore 25 lakh.
With this, Maurice became the most expensive player sold in IPL history. Maurice was last included in the RCB team and was shown an exit this year. But despite the base price being 75 lakhs, he got such a huge amount.

Let's take a look at the names of the top-selling top-5 players in the history of IPL.

Chris Morris - South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris has been bought by the Mumbai Indians team for Rs 16.25 crore. He has become the most expensive player sold in IPL auction history. The base price of this African all-rounder was 75 lakh rupees and many teams were eyeing them, but in the end Rajasthan Royals left behind Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and bought this player in the team.

Yuvraj Singh - In the 2015 auction, Delhi Capitals bought Yuvraj Singh for Rs 16 crore. However, Yuvraj's performance was not much better then and that year he scored only 248 runs in 14 matches. However after that the graph of Yuvraj Singh's IPL career started falling and after playing in the IPL of 2019, he retired from the international.

Pat Cummins - Australia's fast bowler Pat Cummins was the most expensive player sold in the 2020 auction. Last year, KKR bought this bowler for a huge amount of 15.5. Cummins has been retained by KKR's team again this year and he specializes in bowling as well as batting in the lower order.

Kyle Jaminson - New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jaminson got into a fierce battle in the 2021 IPL auction between the Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers and was bought by the Royal Challengers team for a whopping Rs 15 crore. It entered the auction for the first time and sold at a huge price with a base price of 7.5 million.

Gautam Gambhir - Former left-handed batsman Gautam Gambhir was bought by KKKR's management in 2011 for 14.9 million. Gautam Gambhir also captained his team for the feat and made Kolkata the IPL champion 2 times. Although Gambhir once again joined his old team Delhi in the year 2018, but his performance there was very poor and the veteran himself made a distance in the IPL. In 2018, he played just 6 matches for Delhi, with just 85 runs off his bat.
