The date for filing income tax returns has been extended once again, now till December 31

New Delhi: The
Income Tax department has extended the deadline for filing income tax during the Corona era. According to information received from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), ordinary citizens, who did not have to file an audit report with their returns, can now file their returns for the year 2019-20 by December 31, 2020. Earlier, the last date for filing returns was November 30, 2020.

According to information received from the Union Finance Ministry, taxpayers whose returns do not include an audit report will now be able to file their returns by December 31, 2020. The last date for filing returns is January 31, 2021 for such taxpayers who want to include an audit report in their returns.

In early May, the government extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2019-20 to 30 November 2020. Apart from this, the benefit of 'Dispute to Confidence Scheme' introduced for resolving tax disputes was also extended till 31st December 2020 without any additional charge.
