New Delhi: India and Japan have teamed up to strengthen their partnership in the Indo-Pacific region. India and China have agreed to sign important agreements on 5G technology, artificial intelligence and some other important issues. A meeting between Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi was held in Tokyo on Wednesday, after which it was announced that Japan was ready to be a key partner in the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI) as a connectivity pillar.
Indo-Japanese handshake to confront China
IPOI is a framework striving to create a secure maritime domain in the Indo-Pacific region. China is stepping up its military activities in the region, raising global concerns. Jaishankar said in a tweet that the India-Japan alliance would be further strengthened in view of the plans for development in the 13th Strategic Dialogue of the Indo-Japanese Foreign Ministers.
The role of digital technology was acknowledged
The role of digital technology is growing in view of which both the ministers emphasized on secure digital and cyber system. With that in mind, the Cyber Security Agreement has been finalized, the External Affairs Ministry said. It also said the agreement would promote capacity building, research and development, security and critical information structures, 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and more.
The Chinese company will be hit hard
Cooperation between India and Japan in 5G technology is a big blow to China. China's Huawei has been hit harder than other countries in 5G technology. Many countries have asked Huawei to leave their country. The United States has banned Huawei for security reasons and is forcing other countries to stay away from the Chinese telecommunications giant.
