Savitri was married to Satyavan, son of King Dyumatsena. Satyavan lived in the forest with his parents as his enemies had snatched away his kingdom. Savitri knew that Satyavan had a short lifespan. On the day of his death, Savitri also went to the forest with Satyavan. When Yamraj started taking Satyavan's soul out of his body, Savitri also started following him. Yamraj gave Savitri many boons and had to spare Satyavan's life too.
