The producer suffers losses… Sanjay Gupta spoke on 'buy one get one offer' in films

Director Sanjay Gupta has talked about 'buy one get one offer' in films. Talking about this, he said that this causes loss to the producer of the film. According to him, this has been done so that negotiations can be done with the OTT platform for the film. He also expressed the fear that the audience will start thinking that they will watch the film only when an offer comes.

Nowadays 'buy one get one offer' is prevalent everywhere. Now it is being seen in films as well. In this offer, you get a second ticket free on buying one ticket. Recently, such an offer was seen in Vicky Kaushal-Sara Ali Khan's film 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke'. The initial earnings of the film were Rs 5.49 crore and the buy one get one offer worked in this film. After this, such offers started being seen more in many films. It is being said by the industry, trade and exhibitors that this offer can prove to be harmful in the long run.

Now they are worried that the audience may get used to it and wait for such offers in every film. In such a situation, it is possible that they may not watch many films. If this happens, the producers will lose their potential audience.

What did Sanjay Gupta say on 'Buy One Get One Offer'?

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta was asked about his opinion on this scheme. He said, "This is just a way to increase the collection so that you can negotiate with the OTT platform. You can tell them that my film has earned so much." Completing his point, he further said, what is the producer's share in the 'buy one get one offer'? Here the theater owner earns but the producer incurs a loss. So what does this mean? In the first week, the audience watched the film by paying the full amount. Whereas, in the second week, one ticket is getting the second one free. So according to this, those who watched the film in the first week, it is like cheating them. People will start thinking that they will go when the offer comes."

According to Sanjay Gupta, the price of the movie ticket can be decided according to the budget of the movie. More can be charged by saying that the movie is expensive. For example, if the ticket of 'Kalki 2898 AD' is sold for Rs 500, then it is understandable.
