If you have chest pain, do you also consider it a symptom of heart attack? Many people do not know the difference between gas pain and heart attack symptoms. In many cases, the patient gets scared thinking of gas problem as heart disease.
Cases of heart attacks have been increasing for the past few years. People are also nervous about heart diseases. Some people assume chest pain to be a heart disease. They go to the hospital and get several tests done. Later it is found out that the pain was a normal gas problem, not a heart attack. In such a situation, it is important for you to know whether the chest pain is a stomach gas problem or is it a sign of some heart problem. To know this, we have talked to experts.
Dr Ajit Jain of the cardiology department at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital says that one way to identify it is that if you are having burning sensation and pain in the chest, then take gas medicine. If you feel relieved after taking gas medicine, then it was gas pain due to stomach problem, but if you do not get relief and the pain persists, then you should immediately go to the hospital. During this time, first get an ECG done, if there is any problem in it and along with chest pain, there is sweating or the pain is also going to the left hand, then get the rest of the tests done immediately. This can be a sign of a blockage in the heart.
Dr Jain explains that if you feel pain and burning sensation in the chest after eating food, then it is usually gas pain. This is because eating at the wrong time and overeating can cause acidity. This can cause chest pain. In such a situation, it is important that you also keep an eye on your eating pattern.
Keep an eye on these symptoms
Dr Jain says that if there is any problem in the heart, there will be severe pain in the chest and along with it there may be sweating, shortness of breath, pain in the left hand and pain in the jaws. This rarely happens in the case of gas pain. When gas pain occurs, it causes mild pain in the stomach along with pain in the middle of the chest. In cases of heart attack, the pain can increase from the chest and go towards the left hand. In such a situation, you should be aware of these symptoms.
These are the risk factors
Dr Ajay Kumar, a senior physician in Delhi, says that people who smoke, have a family member with heart disease or are under a lot of mental stress have a higher risk of heart attack than others. If such people have chest pain and other symptoms are also visible, they should immediately go to the hospital. One should not be negligent in this matter.
