American soldier Gordon Black had reached the Russian city of Vladivostok to meet his girlfriend, after which his Russian girlfriend accused him of theft and the American soldier was arrested. The judge also ordered Black to pay 10,000 rubles i.e. about 9 thousand rupees as compensation.
There has been a lot of rift in the relationship between Russia and America, meanwhile a Russian court sentenced an American soldier to about 4 years in prison on charges of theft. Due to which the relations between the two countries became even more tense. On Wednesday, a court in the Russian city of Vladivostok sentenced a 34-year-old American soldier on charges of theft and threatening to kill.
The name of this American soldier is Gordon Black, who had reached the Russian city of Vladivostok to meet his girlfriend, after which his girlfriend accused the soldier of theft and he was arrested. The judge also ordered Black to pay 10,000 rubles i.e. about 9 thousand rupees as compensation.
Many Americans are imprisoned in Russia
The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has created a lot of tension between Russia and America. After which the relations between the two countries have worsened further after the arrest of the American soldier. Russia has imprisoned many American citizens in its jail, including corporate security executive Paul Whelan and Wall Street Journal reporter Ivan Gershkovich, a musician Travis Leak.
However, the US government has declared the detention of these two citizens as wrong. The US government says that these US citizens have been wrongly detained by the Russian government. Also, the US government is trying to negotiate for the release of these citizens.
Permission was not given to go to Russia
After which the US State Department now strictly advises American citizens not to go to Russia. Under the policy of the US Defense Department Pentagon, soldiers have to take permission from the security manager or commander for any international travel. But the US Army said that soldier Black did not ask for permission to go to Russia.
How the soldier got to Russia
Soldier Black was on leave and was due to return from South Korea to his base at Fort Cavazos, Texas, where he was stationed with the Army at Camp Humphreys. Army spokeswoman Cynthia Smith said Black had signed out to return home but he did not reach home, instead Black reached the Russian city of Vladivostok via China to meet his girlfriend.
Girlfriend accused him of theft
Black's girlfriend, who had come to meet his girlfriend, accused him of theft. Girlfriend Alexandra Vashchuk said that there was a domestic dispute between her and her boyfriend, during which Black got angry and attacked his girlfriend. Vashchuk further said, Black then stole money from my purse. US officials said that Black is married and he met his girlfriend in South Korea.
