Epic Story: Death is a universal truth, whoever is born, his death is certain. Today we are going to tell you about a story which makes people immortal. When two birds heard this story, they became immortal. This is why it was called Amar Katha. This story was narrated by Lord Shiva to Mother Parvati, the place where he narrated this story to Goddess Parvati became famous as Amarnath. It is believed that one attains salvation by merely visiting Amarnath.
People consider Amarnath Yatra as heaven on earth. It is a very famous pilgrimage site for Hindus. It is located at an altitude of 3,888 meters above sea level. The journey to Amarnath is considered very difficult but despite this, lakhs of devotees come here to visit. There is also a mythological story related to this, which is related to Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.
Lord Shiva narrated Amar Katha
According to the Puranas, once Mother Parvati said to Lord Shiva, 'O Lord, you are immortal and to attain you I have to take a new form in every birth and do severe penance. Please tell me the secret of your immortality and this garland of skulls around your neck.'
On this, Lord Shiva agreed to narrate Amar Katha to Mother Parvati. He said, O Parvati, whoever listens to this immortal story becomes immortal. For this reason, Lord Shiva asked Mother Parvati to go to a secluded place to narrate Amar Katha.
The five elements left out
Lord Shiva left his vehicle Nandi at Pahalgam. After this, he separated the moon from his hair at Chandanwadi and Ganga at Panchtarni. He left the snakes seated in his neck at Sheshnag. Due to this, this stop was named Sheshnag. At the next stop, the Lord left Lord Ganesha, which place was called Mahaguna Parvat. At the same time, Lord Shiva also abandoned an insect called flea in Pissu Valley. In this way, Shiva separated the five life-giving elements from himself. After this, he entered a cave with Mother Parvati.
The immortal story narrated to Mother Parvati
After this, Lord Shiva meditated and closed his eyes and started narrating Amar Katha to Maa Parvati. In the middle of the story, Maa Parvati fell asleep, Lord Shiva could not know about this. He continued narrating the story. During this time, a pair of white pigeons were present in the cave, who were listening to the story and were making the sound of 'Gung-Gung' in between. Lord Shiva felt from this sound that Maa Parvati was listening to the story and was roaring in between. When the story ended, Lord Shiva saw that Maa Parvati was sleeping and two pigeons were listening to her story.
Lord Shiva became angry
Seeing the pigeons listening to the story, Lord Shiva became angry at them. He proceeded to kill the pigeons. On this the pigeons prayed to Lord Shiva that O Lord, we have heard this immortal story and if you kill us then this story will become false. On this Lord Shiva left the pigeons alive and blessed them that you will always reside at this place as a symbol of Shiva Parvati. Thus this pair of pigeons became immortal. Even today devotees get to see these pigeons. The person who sees these pigeons attains salvation.
