Matsya Purana: According to Matsya Purana, how were the daughters of Daksh born, one of whom became the wife of Lord Shiva?

Matsya Purana: According to the Puranas, Daksha Prajapati was created by Brahma as his Manas Putra like other Prajapatis. All the daughters of Daksha Prajapati were called Daksha Kanyas.

Matsya Purana: According to Matsya Purana, Daksha Prajapati was the son of Brahma, so he was also responsible for the works related to the creation of the universe. The deity of Daksha kings was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Daksha Prajapati had a total of 84 daughters. The details of the birth of all these daughters are found in the fifth chapter of Matsya Purana.

Who is Daksha Prajapati?

Daksha Prajapati was born from the right thumb of Brahma ji. But in the next Kalpa, he was born as the son of Pracheta. Daksha Prajapati was married to Prasuti and Virni, daughters of Swayambhuva Manu. According to Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran, in his first birth, Daksha was the son of Brahma and in the second birth in Vaivasvat Manvantar, Daksha Prajapati was born to Prachetas, sons of Prachinbarhi and he married Askini, daughter of Maharaj Veeran and gave birth to 30000 sons by worshipping the Ashtabhuja form of Lord Vishnu. According to Matsya Purana, he had a total of 84 daughters, out of which Prasuti had 24 daughters and Virni had 60 daughters.

Birth story of Daksha's daughters

The description of the origin of Daksha Prajapati's 84 daughters has been given in Matsya Purana. According to which, before Daksha Prajapati, the creation of people happened through mere resolve, sight and touch. After Daksha Prajapati, the creation was run by the union of man and woman. Brahma Ji ordered Daksha Prajapati to create people. When the creation of Dev Rishi and Nagas through resolve, sight and touch did not expand the living world, then Daksha gave birth to a thousand sons from the womb of Panchjani who were known as Haryashva.

Narad ji told all the Haryashvas that you all should go everywhere, understand the expanse of the earth, find out about your brothers and then return and create the universe. As per the order of Narad ji, everyone went in different directions but no one returned. After which Daksh Prajapati gave birth to hundred sons again from the womb of Varni. After which he also did not return, understanding the expanse of the earth.

The birth of 60 girls

After the sons born to Daksha Prajapati were destroyed, Daksha Prajapati gave birth to 60 daughters from the womb of Virni. Out of these, Daksha gave 10 daughters to Dharma, 13 to Kashyap, 27 to Chandrama, 4 to Arishtanemi, 2 to Krishasva, 2 to Bhrigunandan Shukra and 2 daughters to Maharishi Angira.

Wife of Lord Shiva

Daksha Prajapati had a total of 84 daughters, but 24 of these daughters were born from the womb of Prakriti. One of these 24 daughters was Mata Sati, who was the wife of Lord Shiva.
