American cyber security firm Resecurity claimed that personal information of about 81.5 crore people has been leaked. A threat actor named pwn0001 posted a thread on the breach forum in which Aadhaar and passports of 81.5 crore Indian citizens were accessed. Let us tell you that the population of India is more than 1.48 billion.

Leaked data is being sold on the dark web

The company further said that its HUNTER (HUMINT) unit investigators tried to talk to the threat actor. These actors offered to sell Aadhaar and passport information for $80,000 i.e. approximately Rs 66.60 lakh. A hacker has also posted about this on social media platform X (earlier Twitter).

Online method of Aadhaar Lock

Go to the official website of UIDAI (https://uidai.gov.in/).

Go to My Aadhaar tab and click on Aadhaar Services section

Aadhaar Lock/Unlock option will be available here, click on it

Now select Unlock UID option.

Here you have to enter 16 digit virtual ID.

Enter OTP by clicking on Send OTP button.

Lock Aadhaar through SMS

First of all, send SMS 'GETOTP (last 4 digits of Aadhaar)' to 1947 from the registered mobile number.

When OTP comes, send another SMS

Type 'LOCKUID (last 4 digits of Aadhaar) (write the OTP received)' and message it to 1947.
