Who were the 40 ghosts of Mughal Prince Dara's army who came to conquer Kandahar Fort?

Mughal History: It had become the dream of the Mughals to acquire the fort of Kandahar, 425 miles away from Agra. Efforts to achieve this had started during the reign of Shahjahan. Aurangzeb tried to achieve this, but returned to Kabul in despair on 9 July 1652. After the defeat of Aurangzeb, Dara decided to go to Kandahar again, that too with the help of ghosts.

The Mughals tried their best to capture the fort of Kandahar. Even after one failure after another, his enthusiasm did not diminish. But the most talked about was Darashikoh's army, which reached Kandahar to conquer the fort. In which the presence of spirits and ghosts was claimed to provide support. Its whole story is very interesting.

This is about the time when Shahjahan was ruling Agra. But it had become the dream of the Mughals to acquire the fort of Kandahar, four hundred and twenty miles away from Agra. Efforts to achieve this had started during the reign of Shahjahan. In the year 1639, it came to light that many Iranian rulers were planning to capture Kandahar, so Dara reached there to attack, but was stopped there by Shahjahan. Shahjahan had special affection for Dara and knew that Dara was not fit to fight that war. This was the reason why Shahjahan called him back without fighting a war.

Aurangzeb tried to achieve this, but returned to Kabul in despair on 9 July 1652. After the defeat of Aurangzeb, Dara decided to go to Kandahar again.

Maulana who prays should be kept in the army

In the Mughal Sultanate, Dara's image was not that of a soldier but that of a Sufi. In those times, when a Suf picked up a sword, he was taken seriously. This time the Mughal Sultanate and other countries were feeling that some miracle would happen and they would return only after conquering Kandahar, but the biggest problem with Dara was that he was very superstitious and emotional. Due to the association of Sufi saints, his thinking had changed compared to the Mughals.

Before leaving for Kandahar, Shahzada Dara visited Kabul. During this time, two fakirs came and sat silently in his living room. One of them shouted that he could see what was happening in Iran. The Shah of Iran is finished. Meanwhile, the second fakir shouted and said, I am also seeing the same thing. After hearing this, Dara changed his mind. He said that he too has a feeling that this is what happened. The story of Shah Abbas's death has also been proved to be true.

Dara had already started preparations for the attack in Kandahar. He collected ration in Lahore and started recruiting soldiers, but being superstitious had an impact on his war preparations. As a result, Dara recruited such Maulanas in the army who used to recite prayers for victory.

Trying to win the battle between witchcraft and spirits

Dara's army recruited magicians who would create insects in the enemies' grains. Work to create divisions in the enemy groups. Dara started moving towards Kandahar. Along with the magicians in his army, there was also a Tantrik who was called the emperor of 40 ghosts. His name was Indragiri. It was being said that Tantrik could change the course of the war by bringing down the wall of the fort into the moat with the help of those spirits.

According to his claim, on May 3, Indragiri sought permission to enter the fort to assign a new task to the ghosts, saying that he was a very special friend of the prince. He wants to see the palace. The Iranians believed him and took him inside. After receiving the hospitality, it was revealed that he was a false magician. After seeing this, the king was so angry that he threw Indragiri down from the Jagrud Shahi hill.

A magician told the strategy to win the war

Two months after that incident, another magician came to Dara and said that with his magic he could stop the enemy's cannons and guns for three hours. Dara also recruited him. But this could not happen. After a few days, a sage came to Dara who claimed that he would bring such a spirit that would destroy the enemy along with his weapons.

One after the other, dozens of such people came in contact with Dara and Dara also gave a chance to everyone. These incidents show how superstitious Dara was.
