Layoffs again in Google, this time hundreds of people were shown the way out.

In the month of January, Google had laid off 6 percent of its total workforce. Now this trend has started again and hundreds of employees have been shown the door. After which Google has become the first tech company in the world to do so in the current quarter.

Google, one of the world's largest tech companies, has again started showing the way out to its employees. Google's parent company Alphabet is again laying off its global recruitment team. Alphabet has been reducing recruitment a bit for some time now. According to media reports, the hundreds of layoffs made by the company recently are not part of the large-scale layoffs. However, the company will retain some posts in recruitment so that the recruitment process continues. After this decision, Google has become the first tech company in the world to have a layoff in this quarter. Earlier, big companies like Facebook, Microsoft and Amazon had done mass layoffs in the beginning of 2023.

12 thousand people were thrown out of jobs

Earlier in January, Alphabet had shown the way out to thousands of employees. According to the figures, the company had laid off 12,000 people. After which the total workforce of the company was reduced by 6 percent. The company had 1,81,798 employees as of June 30. According to a report by employment firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas, the number of dismissals in America increased manifold between July and August. There has been an increase of almost four times compared to a year ago. According to economists' estimates, unemployment will increase by about 9 percent in the week ending September 8, which has decreased by 13,000 in the last seven days to 2,16,000.

Started work on own AI

After the layoff, Sundar Pichai is being criticized by current and former employees. Employees said that overnight the employees were being shown the way out. Since January, Google has started working on its own AI to compete with rivals. It has updated most of its products to incorporate technology and introduced a chatbot, Bard. Developing and running new types of AI is very expensive, and the company has told investors it will look for ways to recoup the cost of its investment.
