65 year old woman got new life, spine surgery done in 25 minutes with new technology!

Sudha Singh, a resident of Begusarai, Bihar, collapsed while working at her home and was admitted to a hospital in her hometown Begusarai. After investigation, it was found that there was a compression fracture in his ella vertebra (top part of the lower bank).

There is a common saying that if your bone is broken in old age, then it joins with great difficulty. If it is about the spinal cord, then there is even more trouble. New technology has found a solution to this very complex problem. Dr. Kaushal Mishra, Director of Orthopedic Department at Fortis Escorts Okhla, in a special conversation with TV9 Bharatvarsh told that for the first time in North India, a 65-year-old woman has undergone vertebra statoplasty surgery.

Dr. Kaushal told that till now stunts were used in heart surgery. This is the first time that stunts have been used in spine surgery. He said that statoplasty is a revolutionary technique in which cement is applied by inserting the stat inside the vertebral body. It is a very effective and quick acting treatment for severe pain in case of vertebral scirrh.

What happened to the patient

Sudha Singh, a resident of Begusarai, Bihar, collapsed while working at her home and was admitted to a hospital in her hometown Begusarai. After investigation, it was found that he had compression fracture in ella vertebra (upper part of lower bank) due to which there was a lot of pain and l? She was neither able to walk nor stand due to damage to vertebra height.

Didn't get rest even after a month's rest

Dr. Kaushal told that Sudha was not cured by treatment at the local level and then she was brought to Delhi. After medical examination, it was found that osteoporotic compression fracture has occurred in the vertebra. The patient already had diseases like osteoporosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary artery disease and osteoarthritis which could have become a risk factor for surgery.

That's why adopted a new method!

Dr. Kaushal told that keeping all the risks in mind, the doctors decided to perform the statoplasty procedure instead of adopting the traditional method of surgery as the patient was in severe pain and had a fracture a month back.

What is new technology!

Dr. Kaushal explained that statoplasty is similar to other staging procedures in that a titanium stat is used to aid the kyphoplasty procedure for precise results. Like cardiac stenting, vertebral statoplasty is also performed with local anesthesia. In statinoplasty, an expandable cage made of titanium is inserted inside the fractured bone. After this the size of the cage is increased and the broken bone is removed and with this the height becomes the same as before. The stave is left inside and finally bone cement is filled in the vertebral body and stave.

Recovery is quick

Dr. Ravindra Singh Bisht said that due to this technique the patient started walking after the surgery as the recovery was very fast and there was no complication after the surgery and thus the life of the patient improved. He said that in this case we left the stent inside the vertebra where the possibility of cement leaking was very less and neurological complications also reduced. Apart from this, the height of the vertebra also improved. This surgery was done in just 25 minutes and the patient was discharged within a day.
