New Parliament Building: How was the change of power in the Chola dynasty, what was the contribution of scepter and Vedic rituals in the coronation

New Parliament Inauguration: On May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament House and remove another major symbol of the colonial era. Along with this, PM Narendra Modi will install Sengol i.e. scepter in the new Parliament House. Harihara Desika Swamigal, the 293rd head priest of Madurai will give the scepter to PM Modi at the inauguration of the new parliament building . The history of this scepter Sengol dates back to the Chola dynasty and is about 2000 years old.

At that time, during the change of power, this scepter Sengol was used. In the same way, at the time of independence from the British, as a symbol of transfer of power to India, this historical scepter Sengol was given to the country's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru. Let us know how the scepter was used on the change of power in the Chola dynasty?

How did the change of power take place in the Chola dynasty?

It is said that according to the tradition of the Chola dynasty, power was transferred after the king got old or passed away. When there was a transfer of power, the sacred scepter Sengol was handed over to the new king by the chief priest. According to the tradition of the Chola dynasty, on May 28, the head priest of Madurai will hand over the scepter to PM Modi.

How was the coronation process carried out?

According to history, during this time the coronation ceremony was organized according to the tradition of the Chola dynasty. The priests of the Chidambaram temple were invited for the coronation ceremony of the Chola kings. Actually, the program of coronation was done under the supervision of these priests, so their presence was very important.

Scepter was given with Vedic rituals

According to history, most of the rulers of the Chola dynasty were worshipers of Lord Shiva. Vaishnava, Buddhist and Jain sects also flourished in the empire of the rulers of Chola dynasty who believed in Shaivism. However, Vedic rituals were given great importance in the process of transfer of power in the Chola dynasty.

In the presence of hundreds of priests amid Vedic chants, the scepter signifying the change of power was handed over to the new king by the head priest of the Chidambaram temple. All Vedic rituals were followed in the coronation. The Chola dynasty was part of the Shaivite sect, which comes under Hinduism.
