According to the Hindu calendar, Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month is celebrated as the birth date of Surdas. Come let's know when Surdas Jayanti will be celebrated and why Surdas had sought a boon from Lord Krishna to become blind.

The birth anniversary of Surdas ji, who is known to be the supreme devotee of Lord Shri Krishna, will be celebrated on 25th April this year. This date falls on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month. It is believed that Saint Surdas was a very good poet and musician. Along with this, he was also the supreme devotee of Lord Shri Krishna. He has also written many couplets and poems on Kanha. Let us know about some interesting stories related to the life of Surdas.

Surdas ji, considered to be the supreme devotee of Lord Krishna, was born in 1478 AD in Runkata village. Born in a Brahmin family, Surdas ji's father's name was Ramdas. There are many stories about his blindness. Some used to believe that he was blind since birth, while some used to deny this. He always used to chant the name of Shri Krishna.

When Lord Krishna appeared to Surdas

Surdas was an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna. He has written many songs on the life and pastimes of Lord Krishna. Along with this, he has also written poems on Shri Krishna. According to mythology, once Surdas got so engrossed in the devotion of Lord Krishna that he fell into a well. After this, Lord Krishna himself came and saved him and restored his eyesight.

Interestingly, when Lord Krishna asked Surdas to ask for something, he expressed his desire to blind Krishna again. Surdas had said that he did not want to see anything other than Krishna.
