Indian Railways is working in a mission mode to become the world's largest green railway and is moving towards becoming a 'net zero carbon emitter' before 2030. Recently after the completion of electrification in Uttar Pradesh, Indian Railways has achieved another milestone. Indian Railways has completed the electrification of Uttarakhand.

The existing broad gauge network of Uttarakhand is 347 route kms, which is 100% electrified, resulting in savings due to reduced line haul cost (almost 2.5 times less), heavy haulage capacity, increased sectional capacity, reduced operation and maintenance cost of electricity happened.

Electrification will make journey to Chardham easier

The area of ​​Uttarakhand state comes under the jurisdiction of Northern and North Eastern Railways. There are some major railway stations of Uttarakhand. Which include Dehradun, Haridwar, Roorkee, Rishikesh, Kathgodam, Tanakpur. Some of these have religious importance while some are tourist attractions. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Hemkund Sahib, Mussoorie, Nainital, Jim Corbett and Haridwar are some of the names which are popular both from the point of view of tourists and religious places. Kathgodam station is an important station with an annual footfall of around 7 lakh passengers and this terminating station serves as the gateway to the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The first train reached this station on 24 April 1884.

Nanda Devi, Haridwar Express, Mussoorie Express, Utkal Express, Kumaon Express, Doon Express and Shatabdi Express are some of the prestigious trains of Uttarakhand. These trains provide convenient connectivity to different parts of the state and other cities of India, which helps the state a lot in tourism business.

Apart from this, from Rishikesh to Karnprayag, a new line is under construction, which will be another landmark achievement of Indian Railways, bringing the Char Dham pilgrimage route on the circuit of Indian Railways. This route has been approved with electrification as per the policy of 100% electrified network of Railways.
