Air India will reduce the employees by spending 200 crores, know how this idea will work

This is the second VRS scheme for non-flying employees of Air India. The report quoted an executive as saying that if all 2,000 eligible employees take advantage of the second VRS offer, it would cost more than Rs 200 crore.

Air India is looking to reduce its permanent workforce by another 2,000 through VRS. According to media reports, Rs 200 crore has been set aside for this new VRS scheme. Air India had brought VRS scheme for its non-flying employees last week. This is the second VRS scheme for non-flying employees of Air India. The report quoted an executive as saying that if all 2,000 eligible employees take advantage of the second VRS offer, it will cost more than Rs 200 crore.

These employees will be eligible

As per a communication, the new offer is available to Permanent General Cadre employees who have attained the age of 40 years or more and have completed minimum five years of continuous service in the airline. Also, employees of clerical and unskilled category who have completed minimum five years of continuous service will be eligible. Offer will be open till 30th April. According to a PTI report quoting sources, a total of 2,100 employees will be eligible to avail the new VRS. Presently, the airline has an employee strength of around 11,000 including flying and non-flying employees

The scheme was started last year

In June 2022, Air India launched the first phase of the VRS proposal. Air India Chief HR Suresh Dutt Tripathi has said in a communication that on behalf of the employees, the company has been requested to give additional benefits of VRS to other permanent employees as well. In response to this, Air India is announcing the second phase of VRS. Employees applying for VRS from 17 March 2023 to 30 April 2023 will also be given ex-gratia amount as a lump sum benefit. Eligible employees applying till March 31, 2023 will get Rs 1 lakh in addition to the ex-gratia amount.
