A woman dies every two minutes during pregnancy and childbirth. These figures make you think

International Women's Day: Every year Women's Day is celebrated all over the world and issues related to women are talked about. These include deaths during pregnancy and childbirth.

With the coming of March, International Women's Day and issues related to women start being talked about. Well, it is a different topic of discussion that only discussions can be held on the issues and nothing special can be done. One of these issues is the death of women due to pregnancy and child birth. If we look at the statistics, every two minutes a woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth. Every day hundreds of women die during this period.

On March 8, the whole world is going to celebrate International Women's Day and this time the theme is about gender equality. On this occasion, today we are going to introduce you to the truth, the figures related to which are really astonishing. These figures show how women in the world and in India face a difficulty and die due to lack of facilities. So let's know what the statistics of death due to pregnancy and childbirth say...

How is the situation worldwide?

If we see on the world stage, every year around 700-800 women die during pregnancy or childbirth. In the year 2020 also, 800 women had died, which is called maternal death. From this it was estimated that in 2020 a woman died every two minutes. However, now it is slowly improving and maternal mortality ratio ie maternal mortality rate is decreasing. Between the years 2000 and 2020, these figures have decreased by 34 percent.

Under the UN Inter-Agency, earlier 342 women used to die for one lakh births, which has now come down to 233. At the same time, the special thing is that 95 percent of the women who die are from low and lower middle income countries. By the way, in the year 2020, about 287000 women had died during pregnancy.

What is the story of India?

On the other hand, if we talk about India, the maternal mortality rate in India was 556 in 1990, which was per one lakh deliveries. At that time, every year around 1.38 lakh women used to die due to complications during pregnancy. The global MMR at that time was 385, while in India it was 556. Now in India too a lot of work has been done regarding this. If we understand from example, earlier in India the MMR was 130 per one lakh deliveries, which has reduced to 97 in 2018-20.

According to the Special Bulletin on MMR released by the Registrar General of India (RGI), the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in India has improved by a remarkable 6 points and now stands at 97 live births per lakh. The country has seen a progressive reduction in MMR. It has been 130 in 2014-2016, 122 in 2015-17, 113 in 2016-18, 103 in 2017-19 and 97 in 2018-20. Now by 2030 the target is to reach 70 per lakh. If we see according to the states, then the condition of Kerala is quite good. It is followed by Maharashtra (33), Telangana (43), Andhra Pradesh (45), Tamil Nadu (54), Jharkhand (56), Gujarat (57) and Karnataka (69).

Why do women die?

Death occurs due to some complications during and after pregnancy and delivery. Actually, these problems keep happening for a long time and they have an effect later. More bleeding, infection, high blood pressure, etc. are involved in about 75% of all maternal deaths. In such a situation, it is necessary to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Along with this, it is necessary to provide correct information and medical arrangements to women.
