Union Minister was asking for money posing as Hardeep Puri, caught by Delhi Police


Police said that an FIR was registered in Delhi on Tuesday. A complaint was lodged in which it was said that some unknown person had put the profile picture of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

A case has been registered at East Delhi's Geeta Colony police station after a zero FIR was transferred from Kohima, stating that a resident of Geeta Colony had created a profile picture of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on his WhatsApp to join BJP in Nagaland . He used to send messages to the leaders and was demanding money in the name of help in the upcoming assembly elections. Police interrogated him and believe he may have been a victim of a cyber attack.

The Geeta Colony police station, following the details given by the Kohima police, detained the man through technical surveillance and interrogated him. It is suspected that his WhatsApp account may also have been hacked. Police identified the person through technical surveillance and local enquiry, after which he was called for questioning.

Police say that nothing suspicious was found with this person, which proves that he has done such an act. However, the phone number given by the Kohima police belongs to this person. The police has sent a letter to WhatsApp asking for details of the number and old chats. At present, the police say that this suspect has been released, but the investigation of the case is going on.

Police said that an FIR was registered in Delhi on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rohit Meena said, a complaint was registered in which it was said that some unknown person had put the profile picture of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The accused was using the photo of the minister as his profile picture on WhatsApp. He had recently sent a message to Mahonlumo Kikon, BJP's national spokesperson and in-charge of Mizoram.
