The Saudi Arabian government has revealed the design for the Muqab project, a cube-shaped supertall skyscraper. It will become the center of New Murabba district in Riyadh city. The Muqaab aims to be the tallest structure in the world, measuring 400 meters in height, width and length. This building will be located in the 19 square kilometer area in the northwest of Riyadh, which will become one of the largest downtown developments in the world. The Muqab skyscraper and Murabba district were announced by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister and Chairman of the New Murabba Development Company (NMDC) .
The building will have residential and hotel units, commercial spaces and entertainment facilities as well as cultural and tourist attractions. According to the official statement of the Saudi Arabian government, the project is set to be completed by 2030.
Competition design and goals
1. The New Marmalade District will have green areas, walking and cycling paths to create a sustainable option for the local community.
2. The side will have an internal transportation system and has been designed to provide 15 minutes of pedestrian crossing, work and entertainment facilities.
3. Cultural offerings include a new museum, a technology and design university, a massive theater among more than 80 entertainment and culture venues.
4. The development is set to house 980,000 square meters of retail space, 1.4 million square meters of offices and more than 104,000 residential units.
5. Located in the center of the Murabba district, the Muqaab skyscraper aims to become the new development's iconic landmark. On completion, the cube shaped structure is said to be the largest structure in the world.
6. Its structure was designed with technological advancements to create an immersive destination within its 2 million square meters of floor space. The exterior triangular shape is inspired by the modern Najdi architectural style.
