Vaseline has remained in constant demand as a skincare product for over 150 years. This brand is being sold in more than 70 countries of the world and crores of people are using it. Vaseline is used not only for skincare , but also for healing minor wounds. The credit for the discovery of Vaseline in the world goes to the American chemist Robert Augustus .

During a trip to Pennsylvania at the age of 22, Robert noticed that the workers working on the ship were removing the wax from the oil pipe and applying it on their wounds and injuries. When he talked to the workers, he came to know that it works to heal the wound. Only after this he did research on that wax.

This is how Vaseline got its name

During the research, it was revealed that the wax is a type of petroleum jelly which can heal dry skin and wounds. Robert named that wax Vaseline in 1872. It is made up of two words. WASSER AND ALLIONE. WASSER is a German word, which means water and ALLIONE means olive oil. Like olive oil, Vaseline used to moisturise the skin and heal wounds. This is how it got the name Vaseline. It had neither any color nor any smell.

Robert opened a factory in Brooklyn and launched the first product in North America. He toured many states of America through horse riding and explained the benefits of his product. After branding that lasted for two years, it became so popular among the American people that 1400 tins of it were sold in a day.

Gradually, the use of Vaseline increased in many countries of the world. The company started making other products related to it. Vaseline lotion was launched in the US in 1968. It was branded as an after sun moisturiser. After this Vaseline's lip care products were launched and one after the other new products were introduced in the market. In 1987, Unilever bought the Robert Company.

Vaseline came to India in 1947

After becoming popular in America, Vaseline turned to other countries. The company reached India in 1947, but in the initial phase the company got more success in China than in India. With the continuous change in the way of its promotion and products in India, people's inclination towards it increased. The company promoted its products in India through advertisements with the line 'Raunak Ki Dibbiya Khul Gayi Re'. It became popular among the people and the company also benefited from it. It became the first choice as a skin product. In 2022 also, Vaseline launched many products considering the needs of Indians and the climate here. Like- body serum.
