Google India: The world's leading tech company Google fired 453 employees of various departments in India late on Thursday night. Google has informed its employees about their dismissal through post. As of now it has not been confirmed yet. Now questions are being raised whether the layoff of 453 people includes 12,000 job cuts or a new round of layoffs has started.

According to sources, Google India's Country Head and Vice President Sanjay Gupta has sent a mail to the affected employees. An email sent with queries seeking comment from Google India did not elicit any response. Last month, Google's parent company Alphabet Inc announced plans to lay off 12,000 employees.

The company's CEO, Sundar Pichai, also mailed employees, saying that he "takes full responsibility for those decisions. He had said that we have already sent a separate email to the affected employees in the US. In other countries, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices.

Rigorously reviewed in the works

Pichai also said that the company has conducted "rigorous reviews across product areas and functions" to ensure that people and roles are aligned with the company's top priorities. The roles we are eliminating reflect the results of that review. They cut across alphabets, product areas, functions, levels and sectors.

Earlier in January, Microsoft announced 10,000 job cuts or about 5 percent of its workforce. Amazon is also cutting 18,000 jobs. Facebook's parent company Meta also said it was cutting 11,000 positions worldwide.
