After the death of Hyderabad's eighth formal Nizam Mukarram Jah, his son Mir Mohammad Azmat Ali Khan Azmat Jah has been announced as the ninth symbolic Nizam of Hyderabad. Its official announcement was made from Nizam's office Chowmahalla Palace. Mukarram Jah died on January 14 in Istanbul, Turkey and he was handed over here on January 18 with state honors. Since the Government of India abolished the titles in 1971, Azmat Jah would no longer have the title of Nizam IX. However, he will handle the Nizam Trusts on his father's request.
The Government of India had abolished the titles in 1971, so Ajmat Jah would not have the title of ninth Nizam. Jah also works as a film producer, professional photographer and cinematographer. He attended school in London and obtained his degree from California. As part of his work, he has worked with several high profile celebrities such as Steven Spielberg and Richard Attenborough.
Azmat Jah is the child of Mukarram Jah's first wife Princess Isra. Mukarram Jah died in Istanbul and was buried at the Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad earlier this week. Azmat Jah will be formally installed as the new Nizam in a formal coronation at the Chowmahalla Palace after his father's mourning period ends in February.
