There is also an ancient story in the context of fasting and worship on this day.

Narak Chaturdashi 2022: Chhoti Deepawali is celebrated just a day before Diwali. Which is also called Narak Chaturdashi or Roop Chaudas. According to Hindu belief, worshiping God on this day by law makes a person free from all kinds of sins. There is also a custom of donating a lamp in the evening on this day. It is believed that lamp donation is done for Yamraj. This festival is of utmost importance in Hinduism, so it is one of the most important festivals. Why is Narak Chaudas celebrated and what is its significance? Astrologer and Pandit Hitendra Kumar Sharma living in Bhopal is telling us about this .

The practice of lighting lamps in the night on the day of Narak Chaturdashi is very old and there are many mythological stories and folk beliefs behind it. According to a legend, Lord Krishna had killed the tyrannical demon Narakasura on this day and freed 16 thousand and one hundred girls from the bondage of Narakasura and gave them respect. It is believed that on this occasion these girls had decorated a procession of lamps.

An ancient story is also prevalent in the context of fasting and worship on this day. According to this legend, there used to be a godly king named Rantidev. He had never committed any sin even unknowingly, but when the time of death came, the eunuchs stood before him. Seeing the eunuch, the king said in surprise that I have never committed any sin, yet why have you come to take me and your coming here means that I will have to go to hell. The eunuchs said that O king, once a Brahmin was returned hungry by you. This is the result of your own sinful karma.

After this, the king asked the eunuch for 1 year and the eunuch gave him a period of 1 year due to the king's fruits and the king reached the sages with his troubles and told them his story and asked the remedy to get rid of this sin.

The sages told that by observing the fast on Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month and providing food to Brahmins, the crimes committed by them will be forgiven. The king did the same, by doing this the king was freed from sin and he got a place in Baikunth. From that day, there is a practice of fasting on the earth on the day of Kartik Chaturdashi to get rid of sin and hell.
