Govardhan Puja Importance: Govardhan Puja is performed on the next day of Diwali. Whose relation is believed to be with Lord Krishna. According to the Hindu calendar, Govardhan Puja is performed on the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. This year this festival is going to be celebrated on 25 October. Why is cow worshiped?

On the day of Govardhan Puja, especially Godhan i.e. cows are worshipped. According to Hindu scriptures, the cow is considered very sacred. Cow is also considered as a form of Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore, just as mother Lakshmi bestows happiness and prosperity, similarly mother cow also provides wealth in the form of health through milk.    

Gods reside in cow

The special significance of the mother cow is not only there, Gaya is the form of Goddess Lakshmi. Apart from this, according to the beliefs, all the gods reside in the cow. Cow's ghee is considered to have many medicinal properties. Apart from this, on the day of Govardhan Puja, Lord Krishna insulted Indra and started the Giriraj Puja. 

Keep these things in mind in worship

The program of Govardhan Puja and Annakoot is not done in closed rooms. While worshiping cows on this day, do not forget to worship Ishtadev or Lord Shri Krishna. It is believed that the moon should not be seen on the day of Govardhan. Various types of dishes are prepared in the puja. Annakoot Prasad is taken after the puja.    

Govardhan is related to Shri Krishna 

According to the Puranas, instead of worshiping Indra, Lord Krishna started worshiping Govardhan. Let us tell you that in Govardhan Puja, incense, lamp, food, butter, fruits, water, naivedya are kept. The branches of Onga i.e. Apamarga are also kept in Govardhan. Cow has special significance on the day of Govardhan Puja. Govardhan Puja is going to be held on 25 October, so let us tell you that Pradosh period is considered to be the best time for worship.
