Kumari Puja on Mahashtami is very famous in Belur Math. One of the rituals of Durga Puja is Kumari Puja. Red Banarasi sari, sandalwood on forehead, lotus flower in hand and happy smile on small face. In this way the goddess is worshiped in the form of Kumari. History is associated with Kumari Puja here. Kumari Puja was started by Swami Vivekananda's guru and great Kali devotee Ramakrishna Paramhansa. Kumari Puja was started by Swami Vivekananda in 1901 at Belur Math. He worshiped 9 virgins with conch shell, yantra, prasad, rings and clothes in the presence of Mother Sharda. According to tradition, Kumari Devi is also worshiped along with Uma.

Tradition changed in Tarapith temple, this year Kumari Puja is being done

Kumari Puja was held at many places including Belur Math on Mahashtami, but there was no Kumari Puja in Tarapith, but this year this tradition is going to change. It has been decided by the Tarapith temple committee to perform Kumari Puja on Ashtami. Here, of course, the mother of Kumari Devi will be worshiped in the form of Tara. Kumari Puja is arranged in the Nath temple which is situated opposite the main sanctum sanctorum of the Tarapith temple. Similarly, preparations for Kumari Puja have also started in Kashimbazar, Murshidabad. Kumari Puja is organized here every year on the day of Ashtami. Apart from this, many rituals are also performed before Sandhi Puja. Sandhi Puja begins by bursting firecrackers here. The specialty here is that Kumari Puja is organized on both the seventh and eighth day in Kasimbazar Rajbari.
