Psoriasis: Red rash and skin shedding on the body is a sign of this serious disease, be alert

Psoriasis is a genetic disease so there is no complete cure for it. By following the prescription prescribed by the specialist, it can be prevented from happening again.

Psoriasis Awareness Month is observed every year in August to create awareness among people about the disease and its symptoms. This year's theme is: Mental Health: Let's fight psoriasis together . Doctors tell that it is a skin related disease which is due to genetic reasons and usually affects people in their third or fourth decade. Men are more than twice as likely to be affected by this disease than women.

According to recent studies, there has been an increase in the cases of psoriasis in India. Earlier psoriasis was affecting only 5 to 10 percent of Indian population but today it affects 20 to 25 percent of Indians.

Vijaya Gauri Bandaru, Visiting Consultant, Dermatology at Sakra World Hospital told TV9 that the disease severely affects the lives of patients and their families, causing them immense physical, emotional and social pain.

Psoriasis is a skin disease

Dr Bandaru explained, “It is a genetic skin disease which is an auto immune condition. In this disease, the inflammatory cells start reacting with the skin and the cells start producing more skin in the form of layers in some places, causing rashes in the form of silver colored spots on the skin. Which starts falling again."

factors that trigger it

There are many factors triggering this. These include hypothyroidism, cold weather, diabetes, obesity, streptococcal infections and certain medications that can trigger psoriasis. Smoking and alcohol can also act as trigger factors for skin diseases.

Dr Bandaru said that since psoriasis is a genetic disease, there is no complete cure for it. He said, “However, by following the prescription prescribed by the specialist, it can be prevented from happening again. But it is necessary to visit a specialist once in three months.”

Common Symptoms: 1. Dry patches (patches) 2. Silvery white skin 3. Thick white patches of dandruff appearing in the hair

Dr Bandaru said that patients with psoriasis can show mild to severe skin problems, which involve the entire skin including scalp, palms, soles, nails. In some cases, psoriasis can also occur in the knee joints and elbow joints where the inflammatory cells react with the joints.

Types of Psoriasis: Generalized Psoriasis Plaque Psoriasis Guttate Psoriasis Psoriasis of the Nails Psoriasis of the scalp

Dr. Bandaru said, “Psoriatic erythroderma is one of the most severe types of psoriasis, which causes a red rash all over the body and a shedding of the skin.” He said that this disease affects the emotional health of the patient.
